Nanny agencies on the Internet ...
Nannies Beware!

nanny placement Nanny
   Children

Nanny applicants and families searching for nannies for their children, have turned to the Internet to find the best agency that suits their needs. While there are any number of agencies available to choose from, how does a prospective nanny or family sift through the glitz of Web rhetoric to make sense out of nanny agency claims?

Nannies Plus provides these simple guidelines to help the nanny and family separate the experienced nanny referral agency from a neophyte service that happens to be good with computers. Here are points to consider:

  1. Is there someone who picks up the phone when you call, or do you always get a machine?
Consider: Anyone can claim to operate a nanny agency. What do they need? A Web site, an ad in the local newspaper, the basic office equipment and an answering machine, and theyšre in business. Often, these "shoestring" nanny agencies are run from their homes.

    • Are they available to answer your questions?
    • Will they be there if a problem exists?
    • What happens when they go on vacation?
As an example, Nannies Plus has a core staff of professionals with over twenty-five years of experience in the nanny referral industry. The office is open five days/week all year, including many holidays.

  1. How long has the nanny agency been in business?
Consider: Ten years ago, there were fifty nanny referral agencies across the country. Five years ago, that number increased to at least one hundred. Today, there are as many as two hundred and fifty nanny agencies in the United States.

    • Has the nanny referral agency been in business long enough to know who will make a good nanny?
    • Does the agency have a network of nannies across the country that can be a support system for new nannies?
    • Is the nanny referral agency on sound financial footing, so that they can honor their contract and guarantees when needed?
Nannies Plus has been a licensed and bonded nanny referral service, operating in New Jersey, since 1986. Through the years, we have successfully placed more than 3,500 nannies across the country. Our unique screening process rejects two out of every three nannies who apply to our service, and only one out of every thirty accepted nannies qualifies as a "Platinum" nanny.
  1. What is the range of experiences nannies bring to their job?
Consider: Qualified nannies have extensive childcare references. Some nannies are truly professionals, choosing to take care of children as their lifešs work. There are nannies with college degrees and teachers with classroom experiences, and registered nurses who want a change. Regardless of their background, each has had extensive childcare experiences, and many have been nannies, too. What is important is how thoroughly the agency screens every candidate prior to accepting them for referral to families.
Nannies Plus has the most comprehensive, thorough screening process in the nanny industry. We reject 75% of all nannies who apply to our agency. Once accepted, they can be proud to be called a Nannies Plus nanny. We have three classifications of nannies:
The "Nannies Plus" nanny may be a college graduate who majored in elementary education or a related field. She may be a previous nanny, a school teacher, a daycare provider, an empty- nester, or a woman taking a break from her studies.
The "Nannies Elite" nanny has either a minimum of three years nanny experience or a college degree with a minimum of one year nanny experience.
The "Nannies Platinum" nanny is a career nanny who has a minumum of six years nanny experience or is a college graduate with a minimum of three years nanny experience.
This is not meant to be a comprehensive analysis of how to evaluate nanny agencies on the Internet. Rather it serves to highlight the importance and benefits of working with an established nanny referral agency.
